The Lumber Baron Inn & Gardens

This month’s “Preferred Vendor of the Month” is the historic Lumber Baron Inn & Gardens.

When we met Walter & Julie, it was love at first sight – we liked them instantly! They are always a pleasure to work with as they really care about their guests and clients, and make every event a meaningful one. We always look forward to every chance we get to work with them and photograph at their incredible venue. It really is a sight to behold and if you haven’t been there, you’re missing out!

It’s been 20 years since Walter bought the Mansion and we want to wish him and Julie a very special HAPPY ANNIVERSARY – you’ve done a really beautiful job on making The Lumber Baron Inn & Gardens absolutely breath-taking!!!

“The mansion was built in 1890 by John Mouat, a Scottish immigrant who had amassed a fortune in lumber. Between 1889 and 1892, the Mouat Lumber company built over 200 buildings in Denver, helping to transfer the town from a mining camp to the glittering city that it would become. Built along Cherry Creek, overlooking the rowdy mining camp below, Mouat built the “best” building for himself, his wife and five children.

Showcasing his finest “wares” in the 8,500 square foot mansion, each room featured a different type of wood varying from oak to cherry to sycamore, maple and more. With an eye for detail, every fire place mantle included distinct carvings and fine details. Wood in the dining room included numerous carved rosettes representing the varied species of trees used in the guest rooms, each which had its own private bath and a phone. The third floor, which the Mouat’s utilized to host lavish parties, featured a 20 foot pyramid ceiling and a shining maple floor. It was the largest and grandest house in the neighborhood.

Alas, like many historic buildings, the mansion passed through a number of hands through the decades until it finally was nothing more than a run down tenement building.

By the 1990’s the building was in such terrible shape that the city had condemned it. However, in 1991, the once glorious structure was saved by Walter and Julie Keller. Fully restored today, the Kellers went through the long and tedious process of removing the many years of neglect and restoring the building’s original grandeur. Today, it serves as the Lumber Baron Inn & Gardens, one of Denver’s most beautiful examples of Queen Anne architecture, plays host to weddings, murder mystery weekends and overnight guests.” (Kathy Weiser/Legends of America, © August, 2007)

Mt. Vernon Event Center!

Mt. Vernon Event Center is conveniently located in Golden, and owned by the sweetest couple – Brenda & Tom Major. We had the privilege of photographing the wedding of Clara & Adam there a couple of years ago and thought they had the right idea. They have built a beautiful and lush garden to hold your ceremony complete with a grand gazebo, AND there are so many beautiful spots to take photos! We get out there several times a year to be a part of their monthly Tasting. The food is ALWAYS delicious, the staff and Event Specialist Jean, are ALWAYS so sweet and kind to us – not to mention wonderful to work with! We can’t say enough nice things about them and this venue. Visit them on the web at www.mtvernoneventcenter.com

Here are a few favorites from Clara & Adam’s wedding.  Being so close to Red Rocks, we were able to get away before the ceremony to do some fun Bridal Portraits there and around the town of Morrison…enjoy!

The INDIE SIX Salon 2011 Calendar Release Party!

Indie Six Salon to Unveil 4th Annual Calendar on December 3rd, 2010

2011 Calendar to Feature Stylist’s One-of-a-Kind Talent and Artistry in Hair, Makeup and Body Painting

DENVER, Oct. 1, 2010 — Indie Six Salon (http://www.indiesix.com) announces the release of their 4th annual calendar that highlights a mix of style, fashion, and cutting edge artistry that the stylists have become known for in the industry. The 2011 calendar will be showcased at a release party on Friday, December 3rd where each of the photos will be finally unveiled to the public.

Indie Six’s trademark style has set the bar for beauty and fashion in Denver since they opened their doors in 2005. Each year the stylists capture the fun, the eclectic, and the down right fashion forward in a collection of photos displaying their rare talents in a calendar format.

The 2011 Calendar is a collaboration of each stylist’s vision. This year’s calendar includes on location shoots all around Denver. They have included iconic Denver locations such as Bandimere Speedway, Grant-Humphrey’s Mansion, and of course Red Rocks.

The Indie Six calendar in 2009 was noticed by Denver Post reporter Elizabeth Aguilera for not only the stunning photos, but also for their ingenuity in staying above other salons in a tough economy (http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_11389609). In addition to 12 months of photos, the calendar also includes a VIP card, which keeps their cult client following continually coming back throughout the year.

For this year’s calendar shoots, Indie Six turned to the creative photography of Gray Photography (http://www.jeffgrayart.com). Gray Photography specializes in wedding and pin-up photography, but has also contributed notable work in classic car magazines.

The location and co-promoter of the Calendar Release Party will be at Casselman’s Bar & Venue in downtown Denver. The new photos will be on display, as well as some of the costuming, props, and creative pieces behind the shoots. Indie Six will be hosting live entertainment and guests will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win valuable prizes from additional sponsors. This is a 21+ event.

Indie Six 2011 Calendar – $30 (immediate pre-order available through the salon and is highly recommended since they sell-out every year.) Visit the website for updates at www.indiesix.com.
